Cabela's is opening a 70,000-square-foot retail store located off Interstate 75's Exit 222 in the Atlanta suburb.

ATLANTA—Outdoor gear retailer Cabela's is expanding its retail footprint in the Atlanta area. The company is setting up shop in McDonough, GA.

Cabela's is opening a 70,000-square-foot retail store located off Interstate 75's Exit 222 in the Atlanta suburb. That's near the intercession of Jodeco in the newly-proposed Jodeco | Atlanta South development of Henry County. Construction is set to begin this year aiming at a fall 2017 opening.

“Cabela's represents best in class for outdoor sporting goods and their commitment solidifies Jodeco | Atlanta South as the premier development site in Henry County,” Max Grelier, chief development officer at RCP companies, tells GlobeSt.com. “They are the perfect anchor for our project as we create an experience-based destination for the local community and beyond.  This caliber of retailer sets the foundation for the quality of tenants we are seeking for this project—the community will be proud of Jodeco | Atlanta South.”

When it opens, the retail store will become Cabela's fourth location in Georgia, joining the Augusta, Acworth, and Fort Oglethorpe stores. Cabela's expects to employ about 130 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees at the store, most of whom would come from the surrounding area.

“Georgia is a great place for the outdoors and has been a great place for Cabela's recent retail expansion,” says Cabela's CEO Tommy Millner. “We are positive this new location will receive tremendous support from outdoor enthusiasts throughout central Georgia while also providing a second convenient location for the greater Atlanta area.”

The store is designed around a new, more cost-effective concept that hopes to bring new Cabela's stores to more convenient locations to better serve customers. Beyond the standard immersive outdoor environment—including a 360-degree mountain and taxidermy feature at the front—the store will feature an archery and firearm tech room, indoor archery range and Bargain Cave, along with thousands of outdoor products displayed using Cabela's brand new floor plan that dedicates more square footage of floor space to the company's core areas in hunting, fishing, camping and recreational shooting.
