CHICAGO—Baum Realty Group LLC has just promoted Mike Demetriou from chief operations officer to president. He will succeed David Baum, who will continue to serve as the Chicago-based firm's chief executive officer. As company president, Demetriou will focus on the strategic growth of the twenty-five year old company, as well as management of day-to-day operations.

Demetriou joined Baum as its chief operating officer in 2012, after serving as a real estate attorney at the global law firms of Sidley Austin and Dentons.

“Mike's leadership has been tremendous for us; he's such a great presence both personally and professionally,” says founder, David Baum.

As reported in GlobeSt.com, Baum Realty helped handle the sale and marketing for the retail property on the ground floor of the Waldorf Astoria Chicago hotel at 11 E. Walton, one of the city's most valuable retail spaces. Acadia Realty Trust bought the 6,738-square-foot property for $44 million in 2014.

During Demetriou's tenure as chief operating officer, the company has added many new team members, including an entire brokerage team focused on the sale of net leased assets. “He's really raised the bar for our entire team and on behalf of our clients; he's so much better than I ever was. It was an easy decision,” adds David Baum.

“I'm really proud to take the helm of this organization. It is especially rewarding given that we are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year,” says Demetriou. “I am tasked to lead a team that is already operating at a high level, and I inherit a culture and reputation that would make any executive jealous.”

When asked about next steps, Demetriou is “focusing on further expanding Baum's four divisions through recruitment of new team members and continuing to enhance the services Baum provides to its clients.”
