SILVER SPRING, MD-The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Silver Spring, MD-based headquarters will be debuting a “design test kitchen” early next year that will permanently highlight experimental work place configurations for NOAA and other federal employees to try out.
The 11,000-square foot space will replace the cafeteria in the 800,000-square foot building, which is closing as employees make use of Silver Spring's nearby eating establishments and other amenities.
The configurations on display are meant to help employees pick and choose which type of setup would work best for them as NOAA gets set to reconfigure the campus, Laura Morris, principal for interiors and planning and strategies at Perkins+Will, which is designing the space, told GlobeSt.com.
Recommendations for certain teams might include focus rooms, open collaborative areas or huddle rooms, which a lot of groups don't have or have never seen, she told GlobeSt.com. They might have large and medium-sized conference rooms, but nothing for the two-to-four person meeting, she said. These rooms will be able for actual use by the NOAA employees, she said.
