Charter School

HOUSTON—A+ has been working to strengthen, innovate and connect the work of public schools in the Houston area since 1997. During the past 19 years, more than 180 public schools in 20 Houston-area districts have partnered with A+ to build capacity. As a result, more than 13,000 teachers and school leaders have strengthened skills and knowledge through A+ programs, and more than 151,000 students are served by stronger teachers and school leaders.

In 2013, Houston A+ Challenge launched A+UP mobile middle school and the speaker series included many international experts, drawing more than 1,200 attendees. Also that year, the A+ Unlimited Potential (A+UP) Charter School was founded as a transformational school of choice for Harris County. Students range in age from 11 to 14.

The charter school now has a new location at 3353 Elgin St. in the historic Greater Third Ward of Southeast Houston. A+UP will enroll 60 students and plans to increase enrollment to 180 students within three years.

Paul Castro, superintendent of A+UP, tells GlobeSt.com: “A+UP is so excited to have found a home at Change Happens in the Historic Third Ward. We are thankful to Waterman Steele for their persistent efforts in finding us the just-right space for our program. We are now able to serve the students who need us.”

Waterman Steele's partner Tami Pearson and associate Sage Klement represented A+UP in this property transaction. Bob Parsley of Colliers represented the property landlord, Change Happens.
