NEW YORK CITY—MetaProp NYC has started a venture capital fund, and brought on an expert in the field to lead the charge.
The CRE technology incubator has tapped Zak Schwarzman as founding partner, MetaProp Venture Capital. He will lead the firm's venture investments practice while working closely with its portfolio companies in growing their businesses.
Prior to joining MetaProp NYC, Schwarzman was a principal at Gotham Ventures, a seed-stage venture capital firm and member of the Draper Venture Network, where he covered property technology, financial technology, the API Economy and education technology, among other sectors. His previous venture capital background includes experience with Canaan Partners, AOL Ventures and LearnCapital.
“Zak Schwarzman is a rising star in technology venture capital and we are proud that he has chosen to take the next big step in his career by building out and managing MetaProp's venture capital business,” says Zachary Aarons, co-founder, MetaProp NYC. “As an early stage investment professional, Zak combines intellectual heft and New York City based experience that he will bring to bear on behalf of MetaProp in the booming RETech venture community.”
“In leading MetaProp Venture Capital, Zak will aid us in investing in high-growth PropTech start-ups that are transforming the way we think about, build, use, transact and interact with real estate,” adds Aaron Block, co-founder and managing director, MetaProp NYC.
He continues, “Zak's addition to our team continues MetaProp NYC's expanding leadership in the global PropTech community and its responsiveness to the widening needs of the RETech start-ups that are innovating and growing fast.”
An active member of New York's start-up community, Schwarzman serves as a mentor at the Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator and the StartEd Accelerator and is an involved alum of the InSITE Fellows network. He received an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and is a Kauffman Fellow finalist.
