Nicola Heryet

NEW YORK CITY—Veteran tenant and landlord broker Nicola (Nicky) Heryet has joined Avison Young here.

Boasting more than three decades of industry experience and longstanding client relationships, she was with Cassidy Turley—which was later sold to DTZ, which in turn was bought by Cushman & Wakefield—for five years as a principal. After all of the mergers, Heryet remained at Cushman for a year as senior managing director, according to her profile.

Earlier, the industry professional was with Colliers ABR for 13 years, as a principal. Heryet now holds that title at Avison, and has closed more than 25 million square feet of transactions throughout her career.

She is expected to continue representing both tenant and landlord clients in the leasing and strategic planning of commercial real estate assets throughout the local market.

“Nicky is a highly respected professional throughout our industry and another invaluable addition to our already strong team,” asserts Mitti Liebersohn, principal and president of Avison Young's office here. “She possesses strong leadership skills and commercial real estate proficiency, and brings with her a long list of brand-name clients. Both our clients and team members will benefit from Nicky's proven expertise, and we are thrilled to have her on board.”

Heryet has represented Kellwood Co., a designer and manufacturer of fashion brands, for more than 20 years, with the most recent transaction being a renewal of leases totaling 80,000 square feet in Manhattan. Additionally, she represented Answers Corp. in its lease of 30,000 square feet in Manhattan, a 70,000-square-foot renewal in Ann Arbor, MI and space agreements in Tel Aviv and London.

“Nicky's leadership and participation within the real estate community, together with her ability to provide thought leadership to her long-term clients, exemplify the unique Principal-led, client-centric culture of our firm,” adds Arthur Mirante, Avison Young principal and tri-state president. “I know Nicky will play an integral role in our future success as we continue to boost our presence throughout the New York City market.”

As the leasing agent for 654 Madison Ave., a 150,000-square-foot office building in the Plaza district, Heryet developed full-floor opportunities and repositioned the building, creating high-end, pre-built units and then leasing them to a variety of tenants. In the past five years, she has renewed existing tenants and leased to new tenants for a combined total of more than 110,000 square feet at the property.

Other clients that she has serviced during her career include Avon Products, Inc., Citrix Systems, Inc., Donna Karan Company, LVMH, Lambda Legal, Securitas Security Services USA, Inc., UN Population Fun, United Federation of Teachers, Vince and the World Health Organization.

She has received numerous professional recognitions, including the Real Estate Board of New York Robert T. Lawrence Memorial Award for the 740,000-square-foot relocation of the United Federation of Teachers headquarters; the Young and Senior Real Estate Woman of the Year Award from the Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association of New York; and was named one of the Women Real Estate Leaders for the 21st Century by Real Estate New York.

“I am excited for the opportunity to join a firm that has, in a short period of time, established itself as one of the premier players in the New York City real estate market and the industry as a whole,” adds Heryet. “The Avison Young platform is unique and will allow me to meet the needs of my clients while providing them with additional services under our full-service model.”

She continues, “Furthermore, the client-focused, silo-free approach will benefit all of my clients, and I look forward to working side-by-side with the other principals and team members in New York and across the company.”
