GSA Preps for Studies on Potential Labor Dept. Headquarter Sites

WASHINGTON, DC–The General Services Administration will publish a notice of intent in the Federal Register in January 2017 about its plans to conduct the necessary environmental, transportation and historic preservation studies at the Labor Department's current headquarters at the Frances Perkins Building and the three other sites being considered for the department's new headquarters.

These studies are part of the analysis required by the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act and will be part of the site selection decision.

Last year, GSA abruptly announced that 41-year-old, 1.8-million-square foot Frances Perkins Building was in need of costly repairs and it was seeking a new facility for US Labor Department. It issued a Notice of Intent seeking to exchange the current headquarters and its underlying 10.5-acre parcel and a Request for Expressions of Interest for a site that would accommodate approximately 850,000 to 1.4 million square feet. In November it announced it found three potential locations:

• NoMA, at the intersection of North Capitol street and New York Ave. in the northeast quadrant;

• The Capitol Riverfront at the intersection of M street and South Capitol street in the southwest and;

• Anacostia's Poplar Point in the southeast
