HOUSTON—The Association of Commercial Real Estate Professionals recently connected more than 125 commercial real estate professionals for its second annual Inshore Invitational, a fishing tournament raising proceeds for the ACRP Education Fund and the Galveston Bay Foundation. The fundraiser netted $20,000 for the two organizations, which more than doubles the amount raised last year, GlobeSt.com learns.

The fishing tournament launched from the Topwater Grill on the cusp of San Leon, just 25 miles north of Galveston. These 30 teams comprised of four anglers each set out for a full morning of saltwater fishing with the hopes of hooking this season's largest redfish, trout and flounder.

“We are just really pleased with the turnout this year. This is the second year that we have hosted this event and to have a 40% increase over last year in the number of teams participating is just outstanding. Couple that with great weather and the fact that the fish were really biting, and you couldn't ask for a better outing,” says Randy Young, ACRP's community affairs director. “As one of our largest fundraising events of the year, I am glad that everyone had a good time and we were able to raise even more money than last year to support our charities.”

Founded in 1987, ACRP comprises industry-wide membership and has become the leading advocate for collaborative commercial real estate projects across the metropolitan area. ACRP's mission is to forge synergistic relationships among association members and guests, providing strong advocacy and industry education through community and business opportunities.

“We are about our community and want to give back,” Young tells GlobeSt.com. “The education fund proceeds go toward scholarships for students pursuing CRE in some form or fashion. It also has a high school mentorship program to provide a sense of what CRE work is like. And the Galveston Bay Foundation restores wetlands, picks up trash, has dolphin and whale programs, and contributes to fishery so we are a proud supporter of it.”

The ACRP Education Fund supports local masters-level education programs and college scholarships as well as other organizations such as the ACE Mentor Program of America, which advances more than 8,000 high school students studying architecture, construction and engineering.

Galveston Bay Foundation's mission is to preserve and enhance Galveston Bay as a healthy and productive place for generations to come. The foundation leads innovation through growing advocacy, conservation, education and research programs.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization also established in 1987, the foundation's strength is that it involves a true cross section of Bay interests to address issues and concerns related to Galveston Bay. It is managed by a board of directors comprised of sport and commercial fishing groups, government agencies, recreational users, environmental groups, shipping, and development and business interests.
