Metropolis is finally—officially—here. The first tower of the three-tower $1 billion luxury condo high rise from Greenland USA had its grand opening party yesterday, and gave a glimpse at the future of Downtown Los Angeles. The soaring three-building project is a bridge between the entertainment and financial districts and includes Hotel Indigo, an 18-story hotel that opened in April of this year. The project is one of the first condo properties to deliver this cycle.

“The ambition with this project was to create homes that would revitalize the immediate surrounding area of Downtown Los Angeles,” Sofia Padilla, director of marketing and sales for Greenland USA, tells GlobeSt.com. “The property is really a connector between entertainment and finance district. We are bridging the gap between the two, and we are doing that with a pedestrian-friendly environment. Hasn't been any condo projects come to the Downtown Los Angeles market in years, ad it is nice to bring this to downtown and provide a residential component.”

The property is one of three mega projects from Chinese developers. Tower I is 38-stories tall with 308 condo units, the smallest of which are studios starting at $600,000 up to penthouses priced at $3 million. While the remaining two towers are under construction, Greenland wanted to take a moment to celebrate the milestone completion of Tower I. “We received our temporary certificate of occupancy at the end of last year, but that didn't mean that the building was completed,” says Padilla. “We had to finish amenity level as well as other building features. Now that everything is 100% done, we wanted to celebrate the tower. Although the remaining two towers are under construction, we thought this was something worth celebrating.”

While the first tower has only just opened, the property has been in high demand for the last year. “We are fortunate to have done a lot of our sales in presale,” says Padilla. “We have had 80% of the units in escrow, and we are continuing to sell at a rapid pace. We just unveiled the new model units, which we believe will help generate even more interest.”

Two remaining towers are currently under construction and will deliver in late 2018, for Tower II, and 2019, for Tower III. “We are currently preselling tower two, and have received a lot of positive reception,” says Padilla. “Each tower has its own identity, and tower two is different. Right now, we have sales gallery for tower two with great walk-through tour before completion. Soon, we will be able to give hardhat towers as well.”
