SPRINGFIELD, VA–The US General Services Administration has awarded a $316 million 15-year lease to Boston Properties for the relocation of the Transportation Security Administration Administration in a site the REIT owns here. The new headquarters that will be built will have up to 625,000 square feet of office space.
According to the Washington Business Journal, the new site is a short walk to the Franconia-Springfield Metro station via Metro Access Road.
“All of us at Boston Properties are extremely excited and honored that we've been selected for this requirement,” said Peter Johnston, executive vice president, Washington DC region, for Boston Properties in a prepared statement. “It is an incredible opportunity to partner with both TSA and GSA to develop a world-class headquarters facility worthy of the important mission of the TSA.”
Johnston added that the REIT is also very excited about the impact this move will have on Springfield, as there are some 3,000 jobs associated with the project.
