Amazon bought a vacant 77-acre site in south Miami-Dade County where the e-commerce giant plans to build a distribution facility, likely its biggest in South Florida.
Seattle-based Amazon.com Services LLC bought the land from the county for $22 million, according to county deeds. The transaction closed Sept. 14 after the County Commission unanimously backed the sale in July.
The distribution centers will be at least 1 million square feet, according to the Miami Herald.
The unincorporated land at 13200 SW 272nd St. is between Florida's Turnpiike and the Homestead Air Reserve Base near a FedEx Distribution Center.
Amazon already has an 800,000-square-foot distribution center at Carrie Meek International Business Park next to the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport and fulfillment facilities in Doral and at the South Florida Logistics Center near Miami International Airport.
