Uber once again needs more space at one of the tallest buildings inside the World Trade Center complex in Manhattan. The ride-sharing giant has agreed to expand its footprint by 86,071 square feet to a total of 437,571 square feet at 3 World Trade Center.
The reporting comes from the Commercial Observer, citing a market report for March from CBRE, which said the deal was a sublease.
This deal comes just about a year after Uber expanded by 44,110 square feet to take its footprint to 351,500 square feet at the office property. Its original lease at the second-tallest building in the World Trade Center complex originally came in 2019, when it signed to take 307,390 square feet of space.
According to CBRE's March Downtown Manhattan office report, leasing activity plummeted by 48 percent in the year-to-date through February to 608,000 square feet. However, volume remains 36 percent above the five-year monthly average.
Meanwhile, the average asking rent was up by five percent year-over-year to $59.26 per square foot.
Silverstein Properties first delivered 3 World Trade in 2018. The 80-story building is powered 100 percent by renewable energy, features floor-to-ceiling glass and has column-free floor plates. Some other tenants inside the 2.5 million square foot building include GroupM, Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and Diageo.
Additionally, the building houses more than 13,000 office workers and includes 12 accessible subway lines.
