On Sunday evening, the venerable PricewaterhouseCoopers, with just one tweet, was foisted from its standing as a trusted adviser, and a firm respected for the quality and care it provides to clients, to a firm that is careless and an opportunist for its greater good.

The extraordinary flub that was watched by over 37 million viewer occurred because the managing partner of PwC was distracted by tweeting a picture of Emma Stone only a minute before he handed over the wrong envelope announcing the winner of best picture of the year.  The shocking aftermath of that grave error was watched by millions on live TV, and then on every news show and front page of almost every newspaper in America. In fact, today it remains on the front page of the Wall Street Journal.

This should be a wakeup call for every CEO; the actions of one member of any organization can severely tarnish, or even destroy a company’s reputation, literally overnight, as PwC figured out on Monday morning.
