SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY—General Motors Corp. admits that finalizing plans to redevelop its former assembly plant on the shores of the Hudson River in Westchester County have been more difficult than expected. GM will not have a final plan in place until August at the earliest, and possibly later, after originally promising it would have a proposal by last November. Sleepy Hollow Mayor Philip Zegarelli says that the automaker has kept the village apprised of its plans and hoped it would meet the new deadline.

Collins Enterprises of Greenwich, CT and the Trump Organization of New York City are said to be finalists in the bidding for what could be Westchester County’s largest redevelopment venture in years. The site totals approximately 100 acres just north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Marcia McGee, a spokeswoman for GM’s worldwide facilities group, confirmed that two developers remain in the running. After one is selected, the project will proceed as a joint venture or LLC-structure deal.

Village officials have expressed interest in residential construction, specifically seniors housing, along with waterfront-related uses. They would also like the company to create public access to the Hudson River. After demolishing the plant, which closed in 1996, GM performed site remediation work.
