City OK Sought for Upscale Apartments

SAN DIEGO-Local developer and Bay Area hotelier hope to build 350 units in Mission Valley.

Lured by the region’s tight market for upscale rentals, the Handlery hotel chain is linking up with a local developer in an effort to build a 350-unit luxury apartment complex in Mission Valley.

San Francisco-based Handlery Hotels and Solano Beach-based Chelsea Investment Corp. wants to build The Presidio View at the site of the closed Cinema 21 Theater on Hotel Circle North, now being used by a church group. The hotelier is also mulling an expansion of its nearby Handlery Hotel and Resort.

The city planning commission is scheduled to consider the plan, which would require a zoning change from commercial to residential, on Aug 10. The developers hope to start construction early next year and complete the project about 18 months later.
