An appeal hearing is scheduled Sept. 6 on a proposed five-story office building at 424 Kirkland Way that was denied by the city of Kirkland. The firm Davidson, Serles and Associates, which filed the appeal, contends the city didn’t properly consider several aspects, including air quality, scenic resources, traffic hazards and parking.

The site now contains the city’s last downtown hardware store, which is to close by October. West Water Real Estate Services’ redevelopment plans calls for a 117,815-square-foot office building with 392 parking stalls and ground-floor stores.

The appeal hearing will start at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 123 Fifth Ave. Anyone may speak or submit written comments at the hearing. Information about the proposal is available in file No. IIB-99-61 in the city’s planning department.
