The New Yorker Hotel is adding 10,000 sf of meeting space to its conference facilities, bringing the total to more than 30,000 feet. When combined with the meeting facilities available at its adjacent sister property, Manhattan Center, the New Yorker will be among the top five convention hotels in Manhattan, says general manager Barry S. Mann.

According to plans, there will be five new conference rooms on the hotel’s third floor, the largest suitable for 150 people, the smallest for 40 people. The second and fourth floors of the hotel are already dedicated to meeting and convention space. Manhattan Center has two floors of meeting space, including the newly renovated Hammerstein Ballroom and a sound and video stage.

“Hotel meeting space large enough to accommodate major conventions is very much in demand here,” says Mann. “A number of hotels sacrificed meeting space for additional rooms throughout the ’90s, creating a shortage of convention space in hotels. We chose not to do that.”
