Talks are under way to finalize contracts for the balance of a 350,000-sf retail center that has been three years in the making in Katy, confirms the leasing agent for Boyd Page/ChainLinks.

Dean Lane, leasing agent for Price Shopping Center, told he expects to have a signed lease for a major electronics store in about a week while plans are afoot to close in October on a 12-acre sale to a wholesale club. The identities of the new retailers are being withheld pending signed contracts. The project, developed by Kimco Realty Corp., will be capped with fourth-quarter construction starts for the new retailers. The electronics store tentatively is set to open in the spring and the wholesale club in the summer.

Meanwhile, 40,000 sf to will deliver in October, taking the retail operations to nine. The 44-acre development, located at the northeast corner of Fry Rd. and Interstate 10 west, is anchored by a 112,000-sf Home Depot, which opened two years ago. Spring was marked by openings of Ross Dress for Less, Linen ‘N Things and Babies R Us. October openings are set for Party City, Aaron Brothers Frame Shop, Bennigan’s Restaurant, The Avenue and Lifeway Christian Bookstore.

Katy is situated in Ft. Bend County, one of the top five fastest-growing areas in the country, says Lane. “We’re finally seeing the fruits of our tough, tough sweat equity that we put into this deal,” assesses Lane.
