CHARLOTTE-When you are in the concrete business, it makes sense to use your own material to build a new plant. And that’s what Uncon Concrete of Durham, N.C. is doing in Charlotte where it is constructing a $3.2 million 4,240-sf facility at 325 E. Hebron St.

The operation will have a batching facility, quality-control building and warehouse. Charlotte-based Metrolina Builders is the designer/contractor.

The Charlotte plant will complement the company’s existing operations in Mooresville, NC and Denver, NC, giving customers improved service, says Andy Stankwytch, Unicon’s technical services manager.

The company has 35 locations in North and South Carolina, employing 700 workers. Unicon makes ready-mixed concrete, concrete block and paving stones for the construction industry.
