SALEM, OR-A T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant is planned for the south side of Lancaster Mall.

With financing and a building permit still in the works, the architect for the project has said construction will start at the beginning of 2001, and a 6,000-square-foot restaurant will open that summer.

The restaurant will have the same general characteristics as others in the chain, though due to height restrictions in the area it will have a slightly different look. It will seat about 280 and have about 100 employees.

This will be the second T.G.I. Friday’s in Oregon. There is currently one in Tigard. T.G.I. Friday’s is one of the largest casual dining chains in the nation. It was started in New York in 1965, and now boasts 609 restaurants in the U.S. and other countries under several names, including Front Row, Sports Grill and Friday’s American Bar.
