ORANGE COUNTY, CA-Sears, Roebuck & Co. has started construction of its first upscale home-decorating and remodeling store in California.

The store, called Great Indoors, will stand inside the Irvine Spectrum Pavilion, on Alton Parkway near Interstate 5. Another store is being built in Chino.

The store is scheduled to open by the middle of next year. Sears is the latest retailer to pursue the area’s high-income homeowners: Home Depot recently opened two of its EXPO Home Design stores in the county, and Irvine-based home-improvement giant HomeBase unveiled its first House2Home store in Foothill Ranch two weeks ago.
