DALLAS-Infomart has signed its first tenant for a telecommunications redevelopment project in the Central Business District, sealing an 81,513-sf lease for a Bermuda-based high-tech firm to open its first Dallas office.

Global Crossing Ltd. will be setting up shop at 1807 Ross Ave., one of three high-tech hubs nationwide being developed by Infomart. The high-tech communities are designed to provide synergistic settings for bandwidth providers. Infomart is teaming with Dallas developer, Brook Partners, on the Dallas project strategically positioned between the city’s Arts District and West End entertainment corridor.

Global Crossing Ltd. builds and offers services over the world’s first global IP-based fiber-optic network. The leased site will house telecommunication equipment such as long-distance switches, electronic components for Network Terminal Numbers and supplemental equipment vital to a fiber-optic network buildout in the city.

Headquartered in Hamilton, Bermuda, Global Crossing has principal offices in Los Angeles, London; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Madison, NJ; Rochester, NY; Sunnyvale, CA; New York City; and Miami. The corporation’s IP-based fiber-optic network consists of more than 101,000 route miles in at least 200 major cities in 27 countries.

Infomart also is in the midst of redeveloping a former central post office in downtown Los Angeles into a technology community and a property in Boston. The structures complement Dallas’ original Infomart, a 1.6-million sf communications hub that opened in 1985. The structure today houses more than 3,000 high-tech professionals in 100 companies.
