SAN JOSE, CA-Commercial developer Divco West Group is planning a 14-story, 400,000-sf office tower as part of a new central gathering area between the Tech Museum of Innovation and Chavez Plaza.

Although talks are currently in the initial stages, city officials and Divco executives say they want to break ground next year. Redevelopment officials foresee an Internet start-up incubator occupying a portion of the tower, but aren’t yet saying which one.

The Downtown redevelopment project is aimed at making San Jose–the self-proclaimed heart of Silicon Valley–a destination city. Divco is the company spearheading Cisco’s proposed 688-acre campus in the North Coyote Valley area on the southern edge of the city.
