NEW YORK CITY-Close to 100 exhibitors, including GlobeSt.com, and 1,200 attendees descended this morning on the Hilton here for the PikeNet Expo. This fourth annual installment of the conference — the first to feature a trade show — presents a very different relationship between bricks and clicks, organizer Peter Pike tells GlobeSt.com.

“We couldn’t have a show like this 18 months or even one year ago,” he says. “There are two revelations that have emerged this morning. First is that after five years we still cannot see the full impact the Internet will have on commercial real estate.”

“The second is that specialization will become more of a business model,” the San Francisco-based Pike continues. “There are those companies that have died, but there are those as well that are newly formed or who have reengineered their business models. Those business models are more solid and typically, rather than attempting to be all things to all people, they are based in specialization.”

Pike chose not to go on record with company names, but he predicts that next year’s exhibitors will reflect this shift in even greater numbers. PikeNet continues through tomorrow afternoon.
