MIAMI-Hotel occupancy rates in the Miami area jumped 2.7 percentage points from a year ago to 65% in this year’s June-August period, based on data from the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau. Average daily room rates this past summer climbed 1.3% to $86.76.

This is good news for the local hospitality business, which has added 4,000 hotel rooms over the past two years. Several thousand additional rooms are under construction.

The convention bureau has stepped up promotional efforts in recent years. The Miami area is now marketed to both foreign and domestic visitors as a year-round destination.
