HALLANDALE BEACH, FL-Developer Robert Lechter owns nine acres at East Hallandale Beach Boulevard and Federal Highway, as well as an entire city block between NW Fourth and Fifth Streets. He would like to build commercial projects on both sites, neither of which would be allowed under current local zoning.

Following a $75,000 study to revitalize Hallandale Beach Boulevard, the city is now considering spending $4 million on capital improvements and revising 30-year-old building regulations so they’re more development-friendly.

Lechter hopes the changes will allow him to proceed on the nine-acre site with his plans for a 50,000-sf office building. There would also be a free-standing drug store he hopes to lease to CVS, the Rhode Island-based chain expanding into South Florida.
