GAINESVILLE, VA-America Online Inc. will build a $555-million data center in Gainesville, VA to handle its Internet services. AOL expects the facility to be completed in about a year.

It is the second time the Internet service provider has sited a massive data complex in Prince William County. The deal was clinched after state and county officials agreed to give it a raft of grants. In April, the Sterling-based company opened a data center in the Battlefield Business Park that was regarded as a coup for the county.

The 240,000-sf facility, to be located at Linton Hall Road, will employ about 175 people and house about $400 million in computer equipment.
