KANSAS CITY, MO-In an effort to boost its image, the Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation has moved to a new office in the Quality Hill section of Downtown. The commission has moved from its former location, a multi-tenant structure at 1100 Pennsylvania St., to a restored home at 1308 Pennsylvania St. The house, built in 1887, gives the sports commission a higher profile and much-needed space. The old office was only about 1,000 sf and located in the basement. The 19th-century house where the commission now resides has about 3,300 sf and gives the commission room to grow. The organization, which currently has a staff of seven, is the sole tenant.

“Our overall strategy was to increase our image,” says Kevin Gray, the commission president. “We have finished the work on the inside and will work on the outside next spring. This location gives us lots of visibility.”

The commission signed a long-term lease with the owner, DST SystemsInc. Bill Hagen, treasurer of DST is an executive member of the commission. It’s estimated that approximately 50,000 cars drive past the location each day and soon, the commission will be putting a sign with its new logo on the building facade. Dan Fromm, a partner in Three Wide, a sports marketing company that designed the logo, is on the commission’s board. Currently there are about 600 people and 100 companies on the board. A fund-raising campaign and membership drive is expected to kick off soon.
