KANSAS CITY, KS-This week the Kansas City, KS, school board hired the engineering firm of Frangkiser & Hutchens Architects of Leawood, KS, to draw up preliminary plans and estimated costs of air conditioning the district’s schools. Currently, about two-thirds of the district’s 47 schools are not air conditioned. Previously district officials have estimated that adding air conditioning to the schools and making some other improvements may cost as much as $60 million. The board will decide in January whether or not to put a bond issue on the April ballot.
