$20 Million Life Time Fitness Center Set for Skokie

CHICAGO-A $20-million Life Time Fitness Center has been announced for Skokie, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago. It will be built on a 10-acre site on Old Orchard Road near the Edens Expressway. Developer Mark Goodman & Associates made the announcement.

MGA, developer and owner of the neighboring Harmswood Office Center and co-developer with Joseph Freed & Associates of a nearby Hampton Inn & Suites and an Extended Stay America, acquired the property from Portland Cement, which continues to occupy the western half of the parcel. Life Time Fitness Inc. is a privately held sports, health and fitness provider based in Eden Prairie, MN. It will own and operate the two-story, 108,000-sf facility.

The 24/7 fitness center will feature an extensive weight and cardio-machine area, swimming pools, whirlpools, basketball and volleyball courts, a rock-climbing wall, a children’s area and a conference center. Other amenities include free childcare, educational seminars, travel clubs and no-contract membership options.

Harmswood Office Center, completed in 1990, is a five-story, Class A commercial office building situated on a four-acre wooded site five minutes from Old Orchard Shopping Center, a regional mall and a quarter mile from the Edens Expressway exit. Amenities include workout and food service facilities, a two-story atrium and ample employee parking.

Life Time Fitness plans to own and operate 22 family fitness centers in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Virginia by the end of 2001. It is opening seven Chicago-area locations this year. Suburban locations already open or to be open in the include Algonquin, Bloomingdale, Orland Park, Schaumburg and Warrenville.
