Union Planters Opens First Location in Kansas Market

OVERLAND PARK, KS – Union Planters Bank has opened a location here, the Memphis-based company’s first step into the prosperous Johnson County market. Senior vice president Bruce McCune is heading the loan production office based in the Cloverleaf office park at Metcalf Ave. and Shawnee Mission Parkway. One of the largest 30 banks in the United States, Union Planters Bank has more than 100 banks in Missouri and more than 870 throughout the Midwest. The bank has assets of $33.8 billion. Union Planters will provide a full line of commercial loan services, including lines of credit for inventory and receivables, equipment and commercial real estate loans and letters of credit.

“I am trying to distinguish myself by providing a contact point for personal loans and lines of credit in addition to the traditional commercial loans,” McCune says. “I don’t want my client to have to deal with more than one person for different needs at the same bank.”

Currently, Union Planters has more than $1 billion loans outstanding in Missouri. The company was founded in 1869 and has been a presence in the Columbia, MO, market since 1995. The company purchased Magna Group Inc., then the third-largest bank in St. Louis, in 1998. McCune hopes to open a full-service branch in Johnson County within the next two years. “One of our company’s biggest strengths is that we have a large loan capacity and decentralized decision making,” McCune says. “Another strength is our quick underwriting process.”
