CHARLOTTE-Electric Power Research Institute, a Pala Alto, CA-based testing and research group for the electrical power industry, is choosing Charlotte over California for its newest expansion. A more promising labor pool and fewer zoning problems are the reasons.

EPRI plans to spend $5 million for a 50,000-sf addition to its 20-year-old, 120,000-sf headquarters building on 10 acres at 1200 W.T. Harris Boulevard and Research Drive. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter with completion by December 2001. The company has a staff of 120 here.
