Assisted Living Developments Increasing

REVERE, MA-In the first of a series of assisted-living centers to open in the Greater Boston area, Prospect House will open its doors within three months. The $13.3 million center, built by Baran Partners LLC, will have 110 units.

The state’s over 60 population is expected to increase from 1.1 million to 1.3 million over the next ten years and more assisted living centers will be built to accommodate those people. Three months ago Baran Partners opened a 44-unit center in Lenox following a 42-unit center that made its debut in Clinton three years ago. In Acton, Haydu, Lind and Angelakis recently began construction on a mixed-use senior housing complex. It will have 31 detached houses and a building with 80 assisted living and Alzheimer’s units as well as 20 independent-living units.

Assisted living centers cater to elderly people who do not require constant medical attention. The state’s executive office of elder affairs began certifying these residences four years ago, when there were 19 of them. There are currently 153 serving over 8,500 people.
