ST PAUL, MN-The state Legislature held a special meeting this week, but quickly adjourned with no resolution in sight. After apparently reaching resolution with a compromise proposal that includes sweeping commercial property tax reform from Gov. Jesse Ventura, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and Democrat-controlled Senate continue at loggerheads.
A shutdown of state government looms if lawmakers cannot reach a deal by July 1. Gov. Ventura has repeatedly said he will veto a “lights on” bill that merely allows the state to function without resolving the major tax and spending issues.
