BOSTON-City Mayor Thomas M. Menino has reportedly stated that he is interested in exploring the idea of rebuilding Fenway Park. For the past year, the Mayor’s office and city hall have been supportive of the $665 plan to build a new Fenway Park next door to the old one.

The mayor has stated that the other alternative for a new ballpark, in South Boston, on the waterfront, is less viable because of the access issues and the costly need for new infrastructure work. This second option, though, is reportedly gaining steam in the South Boston area and the owner of a series of waterfront parking lots, Frank McCourt, would like the ballpark to be built on his properties.

McCourt, along with several other businessmen–among them Tom Werner, the TV executive, and Les Otten–are all reportedly angling to make bids on the Red Sox which was put up for sale last year. The new owner of the team will be responsible for the new ballpark.
