Some 110 animals were killed in the Jan 10 fire at Kit Carson Park shelter killed 110 animals and destroyed the building. The cause has not been determined.

The new shelter will be on East Valley Parkway near Lake Wohlford Road. It’s expected to open in January and is expected to cost about $5 million.
