SAN DIEGO—Tucker Sadler Noble Castro Architects is close to completing plans that will allow Qualcomm Stadium to pass federal guidelines for the disabled.

The firm is finishing up design documents for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades at the six-level Mission Valley area stadium owned by the city.

The firm is coming up with a design that cuts through existing concrete structural framework to provide enlarged custom elevators that can accommodate four and six wheelchairs and companion persons. By locating the elevators outside the existing structure, the impact on thestructure’s framework will be reduced.

Another challenge involves providing five, two-stop vertical platform wheelchair lifts, according to officials for the firm. The lifts require a weather protected indoor/outdoor enclosure that will keep actual seating loss and visual impact seating loss to a minimum.

Art Castro is serving as the principal-in-charge for Tucker Sadler Noble Castro Architects, with Tom Bauer as project manager.
