OCEANSIDE, CA—A city agency has approved a plan to lure more tourism to this North County community as plans unfold for a major oceanfront hotel resort, among other projects.

Jane McVey, economic development director for the city, says the decision by the economic development commission last week will strengthen an already strong commitment to tourism. The City Council will consider the revised economic development strategy on July 11.

Under the plan, the city would spend more money on beautification, transportation and pedestrian walkways, as well as marketing to promote the city and special events.

Developer Douglas Manchester has proposed a beachside resort as well as a 200-room hotel in the city’s El Corazon area inland. The city has added several hundred hotel rooms and hotel-motel tax revenue has jumped by two-thirds in the last three years, city officials say.
