SAN DIEGO—The Bush Administration’s fiscal year 2002 budget calls for more than $221 million in construction projects at area military facilities, including 12 projects at Camp Pendleton Marine base.

About half of the $221 million in funding would go toward Marine base projects, with the remainder going to San Diego Naval Base and Coronado Navy Amphibious Base, according to budget details released by the Pentagon.

The Camp Pendleton projects include two new enlisted barracks, a new physical-fitness building, a maintenance complex, hospital improvements and a helicopter landing field, among others.

The Navy base would get $47.2 million to build new barracks, replace 60-year-old piers, and erect a new training facility. The Navy has also requested nearly $14 million for a new SEAL facility at Coronado.
