MINNEAPOLIS-Residential developer HuntGregory began construction Thursday on The Village at St. Anthony Falls, a new, urban residential project along the east bank of the Mississippi River on three city blocks in the Northeast Hennepin neighborhood of Minneapolis. The $95-million mixed-use project will fill three city blocks near the Mississippi River with 48 townhomes, 87 loft-style condominiums and 12 three-storybrownstones.

Residences start in the upper $300,000 range; 46 of them have already been sold. In addition, the development at 1st Avenue and 2nd Street Northeast will also include 30 affordable apartments, a 215-space parking ramp, renovation of two historic buildings into 30,000 sf of commercial space and new construction of 15,000 sf of retailspace.

The construction contractors hired for the project are Stahl Construction and Kraus Anderson of Minneapolis.

City officials say that The Village at St. Anthony Falls will continue the revitalization of the Northeast Hennepin neighborhood of Minneapolis. The project is within walking distance to Downtown shopping, restaurants in Northeast and Downtown Minneapolis and the Theatre and Warehouse Districts.

Residents will be able to take advantage of recreation and walking paths on the Mississippi River.

“The Village at St. Anthony Falls continues the revitalization of Northeast Minneapolis, the birthplace of Minneapolis,” says Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton.

The affordable apartments and the retail, office and parking ramp are expected to be completed by October; the first phase of the townhouses is expected to be complete by the end of this year; the brownstones and first phase of the condominiums are expected to be completed by the end of 2002.
