DETROIT-The Detroit planning commission has recommended approval of a plan by Westminster and Abbey Homes to purchase city-owned urban renewal property in the Hubbard-Richard Rehabilitation Project Development Area and planned development district site plan approval to develop 42 rowhouse units, 30 townhome units and six single-family homes. The land is seven acres of vacant property near the Detroit-Canada Ambassador Bridge, just east of St. Anne’s Church.

The housing would be market rate, not subsidized, as are most of the units in the area.

The company has to get a zoning variance from the Detroit Board of Zoning Appeals for the single-family homes. City planning staff thought the project provided a desirable environment that would not be out of harmony with the general surroundings.

The Hubbard-Richard Citizens’ District Council has already voted in favor of the project.
