SAN DIEGO-The Marriott Corp. has proposed a 500-room hotel on Mission Bay near SeaWorld.

The Marriott hotel would be on about nine acres and would have a swimming pool and spa, specialty retail, laundry facilities, a ballroom, cafes and 23,000 square feet of conference space.

The 80-acre Quivera Basin is owned by the city and leased to users such as the Hyatt Islandia Hotel.

Some 150,000 sf of retail and meeting areas has been planned for years as part of a project known as Marina Village, which never came to fruition. The site also has room for a second 350-room hotel with twoswimming pools, tennis courts, spa and health facilities, a cafe and a ballroom.

Plans for Quivera Basin also call for two marinas with a total of more than 1,000 boat slips in the basin. Plans also call for administrative offices, a deli, yacht broker, fitness room and parking for 275 cars.

The Quivera proposal is expected to be considered by the City Council in September.
