LOS ANGELES-A Southland-based group has agreed to pay $6.8 million for a 200-unit apartment complex in Desert Hot Springs, the latest evidence that the Inland Empire’s multifamily market is heating up even as SoCal’s economy cools down.

The 200 units are spread across 25 buildings. The seller is a New York-based private partnership, My Montecito III Inc.

Marty Combs of the Ontario office of Grubb & Ellis represented both parties in the sale.
