VANCOUVER, WA-Consolidated Freightways says it will raise its general freight rates and its minimum shipment charge at the end of the month to offset rising costs. The announcement follows a similar move by FedEx.

Consolidated, the nation’s third largest trucking company, says it will raise general freight rates by 5.1% and its minimum shipment cost by $5 to offset higher costs for insurance, wages, fuel and equipment.

Viking Freight, FedEx’s San Jose-based trucking unit, says it will raise its general freight rate by 5.9% on Aug. 6.
