VANCOUVER, WA-Cell tower siting is going to become harder in Clark County. To lessen the visual impact on neighborhoods, the county is creating new rules for the sky-scraping “wireless communication facilities.”

Clark County is having two meetings this month to draft an ordinance which will regulate the siting of the so-called WCFs. The current proposal addresses minimizing visual impact, establishing a review process and setting minimum design standards.

By doing so, the county hopes to make siting the towers in residential areas more difficult and approval in industrial areas less difficult. The meetings are scheduled for Aug. 13 and 14. The official comment period ends on Aug. 31. The Clark County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the issue in October.

Cell towers generally vary from 120 feet to 210 feet tall and resemble flagpoles. The carriers argue are unobtrusive and no detriment to quality of life, health or property values. Affected residents and businesses argue just about the opposite scenario.
