VANCOUVER, WA-A wholly owned subsidiary of locally based Consolidated Freightways opens this week a 470,000-sf distribution center just north of Mexico City on Highway 57, the primary import-export corridor between the US and Mexico, better known as the “NAFTA Highway.”

The subsidiary is Redwood Systems, a full-service third-party logistics provider that already has signed on the electronics giant Sony Corp. for half the space in the new facility, from which Redwood will manage the company’s regional distribution efforts. All told, Redwood now operates in over one million sf of space in Mexico.

“Redwood is also capable of constructing another build-to-suit facility for any interested company,” says Redwood’s Randy Tutor, adding the company still has room for other clients at its new Mexico City operation. “Our breadth of experience in Mexico managing the array of details involved in order fulfillment, transportation and distribution, combined with capital backing from our Consolidated Freightways parent, give us leverage that many multinationals need.”

The Mexico facility’s security features include closed-circuit video and card access requirements. Amenities include 53 dock doors and parking space for 120 trailers. Other Redwood facilities south of the border are located in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Chihuahua.
