DENVER-The half dozen developers interested in purchasing the ski resort owned by the city have until Aug. 31 to submit detailed proposals for their strategies, including how to turn the resort into a year-round attraction. Company representatives toured the mountain, but had to skip a planned trip to the top of the because of inclement weather.

The prospective developers are:

* Grand Elk Partners, headed by veteran ski operator/developer Jerry Jones, who is developing the $420-million mixed-use Grand Elk project in Granby.

* Houston-based Hines Development, which developed the first phase of housing at Winter Park.

* Intrawest Corp., a Canadian company that owns 10 mountain resorts, including Copper Mountain in Colorado. It also is a developer at Keystone.

* Powdr Corp., which owns Utah’s Park City and other resorts.

* Okemo Mountain Resort, which owns a 520-acre resort in Vermont.

* East West Partners, which built the base village at Beaver Creek and is in the midst of a multi-billion high-end luxury complex in Denver’s Central Platte Valley. East West receives financing from Crescent Real Estate of Dallas.

One person who knows all of the suitors, tells GlobeSt.com that he thinks East West has the best shot of winning because of its experience and its ties to the Mayor Wellington Webb administration.
