OLYMPIA, WA-City officials have set two dates for public input that they hope will help shape the development of a proposed hotel and conference center.

Council members have selected Aug. 29 as an opportunity for people to speak on the proposed development on Port of Olympia property along the banks of Budd Inlet. The developer, although reportedly from the Northwest, has yet to be named. Plans call for 125-room hotel to be built on 3.7 acres of port property north of State Avenue.

Sept. 11 also has been reserved for discussion of a draft charter and interagency agreement to create a special taxing district for the center. Lacey, Olympia and Tumwater will take part.

City staffers say the goal of that agreement would be to establish a utilities district. Provided all parties agree, a portion of sales tax revenue from the three cities could then be used to help finance a feasibility study of and ultimately the construction and maintenance of the conference center.
