AUSTIN-The retail component of the CBD’s public-private development is beginning to take shape. There will be a restaurant and probably will be a market with several smaller stores that offer items from food to flowers to wine.

It’s part of Austin’s new city hall complex that also includes two Computers Sciences Corp. office buildings and an AMLI apartment project. The street level space of the office buildings and apartments have been set aside for retail and the Austin office of Bonner Carrington is handling the leasing.

While Bonner Carrington has an exclusive long-term deal with the city, elements of the agreement are to be formalized by the city council, perhaps in October, according to Stuart Shaw, a principal in Bonner Carrington’s Austin office.

He says the development is taking a bit longer than planned, but it’s worth the wait to make sure details are right. “It’s a very significant development,” he says. They are talking to prospective tenants, but have not signed leases yet.
