LOS ANGELES-Work will commence Monday on a 500,000-sf warehouse distribution facility that will rise in La Mirada. The building, to be known as MC&C Commerce Center, has a projected worth of $30 million.

The completed facility will stand on a 20-acre parcel at 16301 Trojan Way. Designed by Hill Pinckert Architects and developed by McGranahan Carlson & Co., the building will feature extensive glass, 32-ft minimum clearance heights, a high-capacity ESFR sprinkler system and a cross-dock facility. Oltmans Construction Co. will serve as the general contractor.

The project is owned by MC&C Fortis II LLC, a joint venture between McGranahan Carlson & Co. and John Alden Life Insurance Co. Upon completion, it will house the California-South Division for Corporate Express, a business-to-business supplier of office and computer products and services. The company has inked a 15-year lease with MC&C Fortis II LLC to occupy 320,000-sf of the structure. Corporate Express will consolidate four facilities into the new location, which is slated for a spring 2002 completion.

“This is literally the geographic center of Southern California and is the most desirable submarket for distribution companies,” says Stephen Batcheller, a CB Richard Ellis broker who is handling the exclusive listing for the project’s remaining 180,000 sf.
